NEWS from Lisa: Uber October

Tatiana and Lisa at Stonehurst Cedar Creek with Frida.

September highlights had to be Sculpture in the Vineyards at the Wollombi Sculpture Festival, and the Greenway Art Prize exhibition at the White Bay Power Station. I was overwhelmed by the strength of communities at both of these amazing events, from uber rural to uber urban contexts, both so beautiful in their own very special ways!

It always takes a fair bit of effort to make, apply and deliver work that meets particular criteria, but on these two occasions it felt well worth it and I felt a strong sense of welcome, fraternity and joy as I made new friends and bumped into old ones.

Last month I ran a small totem workshop at Winmark Wines enjoying again the incredible hospitality of my host and art patron, Karin Adcock. I cannot recommend a visit to this beautiful cellar door, gallery and sculpture park strongly enough. Thanks to Karin, I continue to show and find new homes for my ceramic sculptures in this special place.

THE TOTEM WORKSHOP AT WINMARK WINES

Lisa Hölzl’s totem workshop held at Winmark wines was glorious. Two Sunday mornings spent creating a unique totem, exploring the wonderful world of ceramics, with knowledgeable advice and hands on help, from the hugely talented Lisa, a force in ceramic sculpture. Can’t wait for the next one.

Meanwhile, back at the Bakehouse, our own creative community bands together to build our stand and prepare for the upcoming Sydney Ceramics Market.

Many thanks to Sara Buchner for supplying recycled shelving, to Scott for cutting them to size, Sally Steele for Bakehouse apron-making and Tatiana Botkin for helping us with our printed materials.

You can book your place here.

BAKEHOUSE ARTIST MONTHLY SPOTLIGHT: meet Cally winter-bruer

My ceramic work passes through the odd lull, punctuated by doodling.  This most recent lull abated when I heard a story about a woman pushing her entire body through a room of clay.  My somatic response to her story was huge, but had to be condensed into smaller pieces.  A pleasure to form, my doodles grew and found their place.

Cally will be exhibiting on the Bakehouse Studio Stand No. 39 at the Sydney Ceramics Fair at Carriageworks .

Sculptures in the Garden, Rosby.

October is also the time for another wonderful regional Sculpture show called Sculptures in the Garden at Rosby Wines in Mudgee from Sunday 12 - 16 October. If you get a chance to see this beautiful exhibition, look out for my three small Australian native table sculptures located in the beautiful Rosby Gallery, designed by Mudgee architect Cameron Anderson.

The Bakehouse Shed in Marrickville is a space for people with a woodwork project but no space
