NEWS from Lisa: Spring Sculpture

Tatiana and her delicious Gaspacho soup, home-made for the Australian Native Flower Workshop last week.

What an interesting month we’ve had here at the Bakehouse Studio preparing for a special end of the year. It was wonderful to welcome Tatiana Botkine - a young Swiss travelling scholarship recipient from the CEPV school near Geneva who will work with me till the end of October. This will involve learning how to run a ceramic studio business, lending a hand on our Sydney Ceramics Market Bakehouse Studio stand at Carriageworks in October, coming to help install work at Sculptures in the Gardens, Mudgee and Sculpture in the Vineyards at the Wollombi Sculpture Festival, supporting Open Studios and Workshops while also working on a number of other community projects.

Over the past two weekends, a very creative group of mostly returning Bakehouse Workshoppers came to make protea flower sculptures at the Australian Native Flower Workshop. Check out their amazing results below. Looking forward to seeing their work come out of the kiln after Saturday’s glazing session. The next Australian Native Flower Workshop featuring proteas will be in February - you can book your place here.

The Bakehouse Studio brings together some of the best things in life: good company, good food, music, laughter and doing something creative. Lisa creates an atmosphere that welcomes you in whether you are completely new to ceramics or come with a wealth of experience. Her expert knowledge helps every student to make their own personal masterpiece. Each unique and beautiful in their own right. If you get the chance to come to a workshop don’t hesitate. You are sure to return home inspired. .”

Monthly spotlight of Bakehouse artists, meet Sally Steele

I’ve always been a creative, but ceramics is a new outlet for me and I LOVE IT!
Especially the glazing:- playing with colours and glasses to see what happens next sparks lots of joy! It’s my new therapy :) I’m loving my little baby salad bowl earrings plus my new pin cushions which are weighted but also contain lavender and crushed walnut shells to keep pins sharp.

Thanks Lisa and all the Bakehouse crew.

This month you will get the chance to see one of my indoor and one of my outdoor sculptures exhibited in Sculpture in the Vineyards, The Wollombi Sculpture Festival, Hunter Valley from 14 - 29 September. So please save the date and I might see you there, wandering between the vines and sculptures. It’s a beautiful way to spend a day or weekend, combining wine-tasting with sculpture walks and gallery exhibitions that are all part of the Festival. Simon Marnie will also be there for his live breakfast show on Saturday 14th.

And if you’d like to make a weekend of it, you may also be interested in the Vineyard-inspired Totem Workshop I’ll be running at neighbouring Winmark Wines in Broke. This workshop will be held on the first and last Sundays of the Sculpture Festival on September 15 and 29. If you are coming from Sydney you will have the option to complete the 2nd day of the workshop (Sunday 29th) at the Bakehouse Studio at a date to suit participants.

In October, I’m also very happy to be exhibiting for the 3rd year in a row, at another wonderful regional Sculpture show called Sculptures in the Gardens at Rosby Wines in Mudgee. If you get a chance to see this beautiful exhibition, look out for my three small Australian native table sculptures located in the beautiful Rosby Gallery, designed by Mudgee architect Cameron Anderson. Also exhibiting again this year are fellow Bakehouse artists Deb Wilkes and Tracey Wigg.
