NEWS from Lisa: April Allocations

March was a big month for the Bakehouse Studio with workshops on birds, flowers and ‘business planning for creatives’. Sometimes, as an artist, it feels like you are being pushed and pulled in lots of different directions - there are so many opportunities to explore, so the Business Planning workshop conducted by Bakehouse Studio member, Sara Buchner, was incredibly helpful in establishing some priorities and goals for the rest of the year. In the short term, April promises to be a big month for many creative projects coming to fruition, and firstly, for The Other Art Fair in May.

WORKSHOP PICS

Workshop Totems

As colourful, ceramic beads came out of the kiln, it was a joy to assemble the vineyard-inspired totems created by workshop participants at Winmark Gallery and Sculpture Park.

My next workshop at Winmark Wines will be ‘Ceramic Birds’ to be held on Sunday June 1st, the day before the Winmark monthly High Tea at which I will be giving a talk about my work.

More details below.

BAKEHOUSE STUDIO MEMBER FOCUS - SARA BUCHNER

Sara is an integral member of the Bakehouse Studio whose art practice covers ceramics, print-making and woodwork. She is a creative entrepreneur with a background in interior architecture, a passion for sustainable, reclaimed materials and three years ago, co-founded ‘Among The Trees’, a reclaimed timber business in Marrickville.

In addition to her popular ceramic Light House Workshop, Sara recently added a new step-by-step guided workshop called ‘Business Planning for Creatives. Three interactive sessions were designed to de-mystify business planning, with a focus on creative practice. The workshop continues this month, but if you missed out, and you think this is something you might be interested in, please register your interest here and we will put you on a waitlist for the next series.

“I recently attended a creative business plan workshop @bakehousestudiomarrickville. Sara provided a solid framework & valuable information, giving me insight into consolidating my ideas and focusing on my goals ahead and how to break these down into achievable steps. I highly recommend this workshop to anyone inspired to plan their artistic journey ahead.
— Bakehouse Studio Member, Jim O'Brien

Sara currently has an exhibition of her prints and ceramics in the ‘Banksia and Co - Husk, seed, wood and clay; stories from what’s left behind’ show at Gaffa Gallery in Sydney’s CBD, running until April 7.

I am very excited to be one of 120 participating artists and 20 ceramic artists to be selected in this year’s ‘The Other Art Fair’, Sydney. This year, for the first time, the Fair will include a designated pavilion for ‘non-functional ceramics’. Integral to the exhibition is having artworks available through the saatchiart.com website. If you search ‘Lisa Hoelzl’ on this site over the next few weeks you can check out what I will be exhibiting, as I complete art works.
This event, which forms part of a global collection of art fairs, combines affordable and original artworks from independent artists.

Meanwhile, between making sculptures and roaming the hills and valleys holding workshops, I’ve made another set of my popular stoneware dinner bowls.

What began as a small two bowl commission, grew into a dinner set.

Looking for a shared woodwork shed in Sydney?

You’ve found it!

The Bakehouse Shed in Marrickville is a space for people with a woodwork project but no space
Or machines, or tools.

It's even for people with no skills and a vague idea about what end of a hammer to hold.
