NEWS from Lisa: Driving and Diving into December
What a great end to the Bakehouse Studio year with a big party and exhibition last Friday and Saturday. Thanks to everyone who came and joined in the Christmas cheer and supported our community of Bakehouse Studio artists. We very much appreciate the encouragement so many people give us at this special event. Times have been tough for many this year and making art is not cheap. So, many thanks also, to all the exhibiting artists Deb, Vicki, Jim, Jill, Cally, Donyale, Sally, Jo, Monika and Eliza for not only maintaining your creative output this year, but also for all the help you provide in putting on this event. This includes transforming the studio into an exhibition space – no mean feat! But the camaraderie and team work involved and the support we all give each other in pricing and putting our work on public view (a daunting task no matter how many times you have done it) is a joy to experience.
The late Barry Bricknell
By the time you read this newsletter, I will be in New Zealand on a ceramic art residency at Driving Creek Pottery on the Coromandel Peninsular. It will be a great privilege to be working in what was once the studio of Barry Brickell , an avid environmentalist and master potter, who left his property to his local ceramic community on the basis that it would never be over-developed and it’s astounding natural environment would be maintained, as a place for artists from all over the world to come and develop their work. . You can watch a beautiful short film made about Brickell in the 70’s, here: If you’d like to share my clay adventure, follow me on Instagram @lisabakehouse over the next three weeks.
Leaving for New Zealand on December 1, meant condensing a few workshops into November. I really enjoyed the recent totem, goddess and bird workshops and the great results achieved by participants, you can see here. If you’d like to book a workshop for early 2025, check out the new dates below as well as the website over the coming weeks as we schedule some more.
In January and February, I’m excited to be taking my totem workshops back to Winmark Wines for a special weekend of clay and chardonnay on February 22-23 - more information and booking details here - and also to the Blue Mountains on January 5th and 12th, thanks to host S.Mountain Ceramics.
Until we re-open the studio on January 13, wishing you a very Merry Christmas and happy New Year

You’ve found it!
The Bakehouse Shed in Marrickville is a space for people with a woodwork project but no space
Or machines, or tools.
It's even for people with no skills and a vague idea about what end of a hammer to hold.
