NEWS from Lisa: Fortunart

I’ve had the very good fortune to have visited Newcastle twice during the month of May. The first time to install my 5 - totem Goddess Garden at Fort Scratchley in the Sculptures at Scratchley Exhibition, and the second time to pack it up and deliver the work to its new owners in Merewether. What a great site for a sculpture show above Nobby’s beach, surrounded by whales, ships and tugboats. Here’s a link to the pdf of the article published in the Newcastle Herald telling Sylvia’s story on why she resonated with the work .

Last month I also exhibited Frida and Vienna totems n the Sydney Build Expo for Artiere Gallery. I’m very happy to say that Winmark Wines have since seconded Vienna for exhibition at their Winmark Art Gallery in Broke. This black and white work experiments with patterns and forms and was born from my research on the work of artists and designers from the early 20th Century movement called the Wiener Werkstätte (Viennese Workshops). I love their use of early modernist forms and black and white motifs. Must be in my blood!

Anne’s Studio in Newcastle.

While I was in Newcastle I was also very fortunate to have the use of my friend Anne’s studio to begin two new banksia-inspired hero beads. Continuing with my recent obsession with black and white totems, I’m now integrating my love of all things banksia into these black and white totems while also working on some small scale banksia and fungi-inspired table sculptures. Stay posted to see the final results.

Back in my own studio, I’ve completed another Venus sculpture. With so many recent Autumnal sea pool swims, I’ve been inspired by the eroded coastal rock forms around the pools. This Venus is my first attempt at representing a metamorphosis of rock into female flesh.

New work will continue to be exhibited at the beautiful Winmark Art Gallery at Winmark Wines, Broke.

WHAT HAS BEEN MADE IN THE BAKEHOUSE SHED THIS MONTH

A new local brewery, (as if Marrickville doesn't have enough) needed something for their tasting sets. Scott talked them into boxes instead of the usual paddles.

There were 30 of them made from reclaimed local fence palings with the Chuck & Son Brewing Co logo burnt onto them.

If you have a project but no space, tools or even skills, this is the place for you.
