NEWS from Lisa: Warm sake and sarcocornias

The inaugural Sake cup and jug making workshop was held during the very chilly first month of Winter. The evening began with a warm cup of sake to inspire our hand-building session, and a week later (with more sake) we meditatively glazed cups and jugs with a stoneware misty mountain aesthetic to the sound of the shakuhachi flute. We are sure to be repeating this workshop in the future, so keep a look out on our upcoming workshops page.

Kate Dorrough will be at the Bakehouse this Sunday

Our next Bakehouse Artist’s Talk will be held this Sunday July 3rd at 5pm when local Marrickville artist Kate Dorrough will tell us about the relationships between her painting and ceramic practices. There are still a few places available - so if you would like to come along, please book your space here.

Meanwhile, work is multiplying in the studio for the Cooks River Clay Connections project, to be on show as part of the Midjuburi Creative Trail weekend of open studios run by the Inner West Council. Save the date for our studio exhibition opening Friday August 12.
Last Sunday exhibition participants shared their great ideas for this group show. My own work will consist of jumping mullet, flying birds, banksias, mangroves and much more. (Pictured below: Black Cockatoo ready to be fired and Cooks River Samphire saltmarsh plant).

This month excitement is growing for my first trip to Central Australia combining a family holiday with The Australian Ceramics Triennale in Alice Springs.

The Studio will therefore be closed between July 13 and 24. Looking forward to sharing some stories with you when I get back.

Don’t forget our upcoming workshops with places still available for Ceramic Birds.
The August/September totem workshop is already full but there is another one scheduled over three consecutive Saturdays of January 22,29 & Feb 5. You can book your space here. Christmas gift vouchers are also available.

Open Studio is currently running Monday mornings 10am-1pm

Friday afternoons 2-5pm on July 1, 8 then from July 29.

Heaters will be on and hot beverages available. Hope you can join me for some warm winter makings. Book your space here!

Cheers,

Lisa
