Note from Lisa -Journeying into rural australia

I always associate the 1st of May with the joyous May Day Spring celebrations I experienced as a child in Austria. Instead of sharing a similar experience with my daughter this year, who was supposed to be on German exchange in Berlin or Vienna, we took a 4 day visit to the Barossa Valley for the first time. While much of it was spent supporting Mimi in her research of German immigration to Australia, we also enjoyed the annual Vintage Festival, golden Hans Heysen landscapes, heritage walks, churches and homesteads. All in all it was a wonderful journey into rural Australia and its rich past. I’d certainly like to go back and visit a few more wineries.

I can’t believe it’s a year already since we relocated our annual Mothers’ Day Pop Up Shop previously located in Coogee, to Connie Dimas Jewellery. Coinciding fortuitously with the first weekend after lockdown, the work of Bakehouse Studio artists Jo Boag, Kristin Vournelis, Monika Lencse and myself was exhibited and received with great enthusiasm by Dully locals. Partly as a result of the success of this exhibition of combined work, Connie decided to rebrand the shop Connie Dimas Artisans Collective to acknowledge the diversity of creative talents in our local area. This year, Connie has included an even wider array of Bakehouse Studio and other local artists to celebrate Mothers’ Day. I have a few of my new maternal female forms amongst other sculptures, in this range of work. Thanks Connie for continuing to support the Bakehouse Studio artists as your business grows and diversifies.

Also now available for Mothers’ Day and beyond are our own Bakehouse Studio Clay School Gift Vouchers. The gifting of creative time and space is one I think many mothers would appreciate. Would yours?
